So, I’m working for hours on this form at work. Its very complex with lots of links and drop-down menus and so on. I try to remember to save every once in a while. . . but honestly, I haven’t lost a file due to a computer crash in about 4 years.
(you can see where this is going, can’t you?)
So yes, I’m formatting and moving things around . . when all of a sudden the program locks up. .. in a panic, I realize I haven’t hit save in about 2 hours. I try to click out of what I was doing. . . I get the dreaded (NOT RESPONDING) in the title bar. . . I’m fairly confident it will take me 3 hours to recover my 2 hours of work, so my panic grows.
This was right at the end of the day, so I decide to minimize the program and let it “stew” overnight. maybe I’ll get lucky and the program will figure out what it did wrong and correct itself. Computers can do that, can’t they?
*whimper*

Came into work this morning, and the program was still hung. . . stupid computer!
So I spent all morning re-doing everything I did yesterday afternoon. Its now afternoon and I’m ready to start on this morning’s work. yay!

Yup. Been there. Done that. If it’s any consolation, 2 hours is but a mere pittance compared to what I’ve lost over the years.

TJ,
I sympathize. I also bet Poobah is right and he has messed up worse than you have, hehe.
And never never never whimper in front of your computer, or it will take over.

I rarely lose work to crashes (if work would upgradeto Office 2003, that would turn into a “never”), but I do lose work on a regular basis to power flickers, I SESO.
Yell at your computer, threaten to toss it out on the streets, but NEVER EVER let it think that you aren’t in charge!
