Okay, maybe not the meaning of life, but it is consuming my life right now.
I’m taking an online course for my MBA degree. If you are like me, when you hear “online course” you think “online degree” which makes you think of a “University” (wink, wink) based in Guatemala that consists of a guy in a small office with a fancy printing machine that churns out pieces of official-looking paper that look a lot like college diplomas, and sends them to people who can cough up the $100 fee.
Think I’m kidding? Check out This Site and tell me what you think.
But actually, I am attending an official, accredited college that has real, sit-in-a-classroom-and-be-bored-for-three-hours, classes, as well as online classes. I’ve split my time between both types of courses, but I’ve found that the online courses, although not as tedious, also lend themselves to procrastination.
For example, each week, in addition to the homework which is due by Friday at 11:59 pm, we are expected to answer discussion questions in an online forum. Usually the questions are deep and penetrating, such as:
If a man-and-a-half can dig a hole-and-a-half in a day-and-a-half, analyze his overhead variances using the Activity Based Costing method.
We are EXPECTED to make an original comment on the topic early in the week, and then, later in the week, return to the forum and comment on someone elses comment. So here it is, a Friday, and I haven’t even made an original comment on this weeks question yet, let alone comment on someone else’s comment. Even more telling is that I’m writing this post instead of writing my comment for my class.
So, online classes: A procrastinator’s worst nightmare.
