Keene High – Girls JV Softball

Amber had another softball game today. They lost 8-1, which made everyone happy. Huh? You cry. Why would losing so badly make them happy? Well, the team has been doing terrible this year. Out of 5 games, they not only lost every one of them, but they lost so badly. . 20-1, 22-0 etc. . that the game was called before they finished all seven innings.

Today was the first day that they finished a game, and they really are getting better, so, for the Keene Girl’s JV Softball team, it was a victory of sorts.

There’s amber, doing her thing at second base. I’m so proud of her. I’m hoping to get some mini-vids and action shots of her at bat and on the field. I’ll keep you all posted.

Managerial Accounting: The Meaning of Life

Okay, maybe not the meaning of life, but it is consuming my life right now.

I’m taking an online course for my MBA degree.  If you are like me, when you hear “online course” you think “online degree” which makes you think of a “University” (wink, wink) based in Guatemala that consists of a guy in a small office with a fancy printing machine that churns out pieces of official-looking paper that look a lot like college diplomas, and sends them to people who can cough up the $100 fee.

Think I’m kidding?  Check out This Site and tell me what you think.

But actually, I am attending an official, accredited college that has real, sit-in-a-classroom-and-be-bored-for-three-hours, classes, as well as online classes.  I’ve split my time between both types of courses, but I’ve found that the online courses, although not as tedious, also lend themselves to procrastination.

For example, each week, in addition to the homework which is due by Friday at 11:59 pm, we are expected to answer discussion questions in an online forum.  Usually the questions are deep and penetrating, such as:

If a man-and-a-half can dig a hole-and-a-half in a day-and-a-half, analyze his overhead variances using the Activity Based Costing method.

We are EXPECTED to make an original comment on the topic early in the week, and then, later in the week, return to the forum and comment on someone elses comment.  So here it is, a Friday, and I haven’t even made an original comment on this weeks question yet, let alone comment on someone else’s comment.  Even more telling is that I’m writing this post instead of writing my comment for my class.

So, online classes: A procrastinator’s worst nightmare.

200 Million Americans

According to Dateline Hollywood and National American Trends Association (NATA), over 200 million Americans have created “Brokeback Mountain” Paradies such as this one: Brokeback to the Future.

As one parodist reports:

The first 36 were pretty easy,” said McNeil. “I already did all of the ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies and, of course, Harry Potter and his gay love affair with Ron Weasley. For this last one, I took aim at a Robin Williams movie I haven’t seen before, but I know it was kind of popular in the ‘90s. I made it look like that Williams’ character – I think he’s called Armand Goldman – had homosexual feelings for this other character, a guy called Albert. It’s all in the editing. I call it ‘Brokeback Birdcage’ because the original movie was called ‘The Birdcage.’

Just another Weekend

What can you say about Easter? Not much.

Easter can be a lot of fun when you have younger kids. There is easter egg decorating, easter egg hunts, easter baskets full of tooth-destroying goodies. Oh yeah.

The kids went over to their grandmother’s house Easter Eve and spent the weekend there. The wife and I rented a movie, ate ice-cream and fell asleep. On a side note, you can tell that the passion is gone when you get an evening alone without the kids, and you spend it eating ice-cream and watching movies.

So, that was our completely unexciting Easter. How was yours?
