Work Update

I’m back — at least temporarily.

Work. About a month ago, I was called into Human Capital (used to be Human Resources until the merger with a sister company owned by the same conglomerate that my workplace is owned by). They informed me that they were eliminating my supervisor’s position. They gave me a couple of options: I could leave the company and take the (rather generous) severance package. Or I could stay and take another job in the company.

After looking around at the job market in my area, I decided that loyalty was the better part of valor, so I applied for another position in the company. I was accepted by the department manager and I am now a chemical engineering technician. Although this is a lower pay grade job, my current wage is within the upper limit of my new pay grade — the upshot is that I didn’t have to take a pay cut. So basically I went from being an underpaid supervisor to being an overpaid chemical engineering technician.

Apart from a slightly bruised ego, I am doing very well. I like my new boss, and I like my new job. This new job is more in line with my skills anyway, what with me having a chemistry and mathematics background. Overall, I think it was a good move, as involuntary as it was.
