Its a New Year – Now Back to the Grind.

Back to work today after too much time off. It actually felt good to get back into the flow of things.

I quite smoking today. So far so good! I’ve only had 3 cigarettes!

Went back to the gym today after being away for over a month. I started out easy with just 20 minutes on the recumbent bike, and a few curls. Pretty soon I’ll be back to where I was a month ago (20 minutes on the recumbent bike, and a few curls).

So, worked hard, worked-out, came home. The kids were here, but the wife was babysitting for our Godson, Mathew.

Question of the day:
Have you ever smoked? What was the most you smoked, measured in packs per day?
My answer: In my prime, I smoked about a pack-and-a-half a day.

    Hey TJ,

Great for you on quitting smoking!! Get it down to zero a day and I’ll be particularly impressed :)

I regularly smoked around a pack a day. Whenever I had to socialize, it could be upped by as much as another pack in just several hours.

Quit over 1 1/2 years ago – don’t feel any better and weigh about 15 pounds more than I used to.

Ah well, good luck to you!

Poobah: I don’t think I could give Arnold’s pinky toe a run for its money.

Janice: made it without one today! Woot. I’m going crazy!

Bogie: Thanks for the GREAT incentive! You’re a motivational speaker in real life, aren’t you?

I’ve been caught out – LOL. Actually, WS quit smoking too, His hack is gone and his lungs are in much better shape than they were (he was a 2-3 pack per day smoker). I just quit at the same time to keep from being an excuse for him to re-start.

I was a pack and a half a day — except for a few years of two-pack-a-day compulsiveness… I started in earnest in high school andI quit on New Year’s Eve 1999. Haven’t had a single one since. The first two years were hard (really, really hard). Was always anxious, gained about 15 pounds (and not from eating more). But it gets better and the pounds can go away again. This many years down the road, I feel good, am not spending $7 a day on smokes, and am in the best shape of my life (my 5K race time this year is a minute faster than it was six years ago). Took me three shots to quit — the first two (pre New Year’s 1999) failed, I think because I tried to use the patch, which just prolongs the agony. Still miss it, though, at least at times.

    Good luck TJ!

Anywhere from 1/2 to a pack a day, depending how much time I’m around my boys (I don’t smoke around them) and how stressed I am. I’ve been thinking more and more lately about quitting – it’s just getting over that first hurdle and not buying another pack!

    Good Luck!

Steph: Keep at it. What I find works is to pick a day that is a few weeks off. Get yourself psyched up to quit. Importantly though – DON’T TELL ANYONE YOU ARE QUITTING!!!!!! You will get lots of useless advice, plus a huge share of people who will enjoy telling you that you’ll never make it.
